Here you can find explanation of terms used over the internet or computers, or as jargon in web development. Terms are sorted alphabetically.

B

Backlink

Backlink is a link to a web page from other page. Number of backlinks may be used as a popularity measure of importance measure of a web site or web page.

Bandwidth

This term is a measure of data tranfering over the internet connection in a time interval. Often is displayed in bits per seconds.

Banner

Banner is a piece of cloth bearing a symbol, logo, slogan or other message. Used with internet it is any kind of advertising using picture, text etc. embedded in a web page, and used as a link to other web site.

Beta

Beta version is first published version from a company or group developing software in purpose of testing and improving, and before final-tested version of software is published.

Big G

"Big G" is a jargon term representing Google company.

Bit

Bit (binary digit) is a smallest information unit, taking a value of either 0 or 1.

Body

Body tag is a part of HTML containing "body" of a web page. It may contain text, pictures, links, video, scripts...

Bookmark

Bookmark is a pointer/shortcut used mostly in web browsers, which points to some file or URL address of a web site or web page. In Internet Explorer tis function is called Favorites.

BPS (bits per second), bitrate

Presents speed of transfer and data processing, measured by number of bits per second. It could be presented as "bit/s", "data rate" etc.

Browser

Browser is a program with ability of showing and interaction with text, images, sound, video and other types of information contained in web pages or web site in internet or local network. Most popular web browsers are Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera...

Buffer

Buffer is a memory space designated for compensation in data processing speed between sender and reciever, temporary memorising data and deleting after delivering.
